Panel discussion at Stadt! Macht! Schule!

The dress rehearsal is over, and now the excitement is building: on Friday 15 February, the participants in Stadt! Macht! Schule! will be hosting their own panel discussion with prominent guests. The title of the event is: “Altona Mitte – our centre!? Young people probe further.”

The project participants intend to discuss the future of “Mitte Altona” with Director of Urban Planning Jörn Walter, SPD politician Mark Classen and urban planner Mario Bloem. For a day and a half, the young people from Hamburg have been preparing intensively, carrying out final research, formulating their questions and rehearsing for the real thing with public speaking and presentation coach Bernd Stinsmeier. The key topics will be public participation, the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the relocation of Altona’s long-distance railway station, the so-called “one-third mix” (one-third each of social housing, rental flats and owner-occupied flats) and car-free living – all highly topical issues. This is because, five days after the event, the draft development plan for the first phase of what is currently Hamburg’s second-largest urban development project will be presented at the ‘Mitte Altona’ information centre. Stadt! Macht! Schule! will also be there to take part in the discussion.
