A first for the German politics festival
It is set to be a celebration of democracy: the non-profit organisation Respublica e.V. is hosting Germany’s first political festival on 3 and 4 October – under the patronage of the Federal President. The Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik is also joining in the celebrations.
The programme in Paretz, near Berlin, is packed with fascinating guests and topics: for instance, the secretaries-general of the parties represented in the Bundestag will discuss how their parties can become more in touch with the public; the leaders of the parties’ youth organisations will present their visions for Germany’s future; and MPs newly elected to the German Bundestag will share their ideas for the next four years. In addition, there will be numerous workshops offering opportunities to join in the discussion and get involved, designed to give politics a fresh impetus. At an open exhibition, numerous civic organisations and political parties will showcase their work and offer opportunities for participation. There will also be sport and fun at the football tournament and the festival’s village disco.
The Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik will be taking part in the panel discussion ‘Citizen participation as an element of political education’ (4 October, 9.30 am, Schlosssaal), alongside Johanna Klatt (Göttingen Institute for Democracy Research) and Thomas Krüger (President of the Federal Agency for Civic Education). The discussion will be moderated by Oliver Rehlinger (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg).
The Politics Festival is open to anyone interested. Further information is available on the website www.politikfestival.de.
