Corporate social responsibility: a controversial issue – perspectives on CSR

The joint series of events entitled ‘Corporate Responsibility: A Controversial Topic – Perspectives on CSR’, organised by the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik and the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA), began on 29 March 2011 with a panel discussion on the topic ‘Transparency in the value chain: trade secrets or consumer sovereignty?’.

A rotating panel of guests from the worlds of business, politics and civil society will meet quarterly to discuss the concept of corporate social responsibility, with a focus on the social and environmental risks along the entire value chain. The focus will be on the possibilities and, in particular, the limitations of ethical and socio-environmental business practices. The events

will examine companies’ value chains, explore the associated social and environmental risks, and facilitate a shift in perspective to highlight the various viewpoints of stakeholders from business, politics and society.
