‘Taking Action for Fair Production’: Follow-up dialogue in Berlin

The challenges involved in designing sustainable global supply chains are considerable – potential solutions were the focus of the follow-up dialogue ‘Taking Action for Fair Production’, held in Berlin at the end of April, which brought together just under 100 representatives from politics, business and civil society.

The event followed on from a joint declaration adopted by the G7 ministers for labour and development at a summit in October 2015. Entitled ‘Action for Fair Production’, the document sets out measures to promote sustainable supply chains.

At the invitation of the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), participants in the follow-up dialogue engaged in a lively yet constructive discussion on which forms of cooperation are best suited to achieving these objectives. Sören Bachmann attended the meeting on behalf of the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik. The key topics were the exchange of experiences from existing multi-stakeholder initiatives and the question of how best to harness the potential of such collaborations between governments, business, trade unions and civil society.

As part of its ‘Ethical Risk Assessment’ programme, the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik focuses intensively on the ethical risk analysis of value chains and the discussion of possible solutions.
