Trade press reacts to the findings of the era-paper ‘Electrical Recycling’

In its latest issue, the trade journal “EU-Recycling” reports on the key findings of the study, thereby indicating that the industry shares the conclusions drawn in the analysis.

"The Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik has noted a considerable lack of awareness regarding the issue of electronics recycling". This is stated in the January issue of “EU-Recycling”, with the magazine highlighting the main findings of the recently published Ethical Risk Assessment “Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycling” in its article.

The positive response from the trade press not only suggests that the study’s conclusions are widely accepted, but also reflects the topical nature of the discussion within the industry. Also of great relevance to the sector is the amendment to the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), which is also addressed in the study. The legislative amendment was adopted by the European Parliament in January 2012 and must be transposed into national law within 18 months. The measures are specifically aimed at curbing illegal exports and increasing the quantities of waste electrical and electronic equipment collected.

It remains to be seen how the experts assess the amendment’s chances of success; however, the need for dialogue and debate on this issue is also evident from the report. You can find the article as a PDF here or in issue 01/2013 of “EU-Recycling”
