VIEW! teaching materials on the subject of cotton are available free of charge
As the seventh industry-specific topic in the "VIEW! – Responsibility in Business" project, a teaching unit on cotton production is now available to download. All other materials in the series are available – also free of charge – in a new layout.
The teaching resource on ethical risks in cotton farming (download here) can be used either on its own or in combination with the VIEW! material on the textile industry. Whilst working conditions in the clothing manufacturing sector – predominantly in Asian countries – have received significant media attention in recent years, the fact that workers in cotton fields often have to toil for twelve hours a day – on low wages and facing high health risks – remains largely overlooked. The reasons behind this difficult situation, as well as the discussion of possible solutions, form the focus of this new teaching unit for vocational and general education schools.
‘VIEW! – Responsibility in Business’ is a collaborative project between the Dr Jürgen Meyer Stiftung, Cologne, and the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik. In addition to the unit on cotton production, modules are available on global value chains in the textile and mobile phone manufacturing sectors, in soya production, and in the cocoa, fisheries and tourism industries.
