Ethik-Monitor

The Ethik-Monitor, run by the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik, is a social science study of values which was developed in collaboration with the University of Bamberg and Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, and is carried out regularly with various project partners.

Based on approximately one thousand representative, face-to-face interviews in each survey, the Ethics Monitor draws conclusions about the values and attitudes of the population and examines people’s views on political and economic institutions and their representatives, on issues of justice, and on the acceptance of the political and economic system in general.

The 2010 Ethik-Monitor examined the extent to which German citizens have confidence in the systems and institutions in Germany. In addition, a values index was compiled, which mapped the most important values and their attribution to German leaders from various sectors. The Responsibility Index focused primarily on the question of what companies should take responsibility for. The Practice Index addressed current ethical issues in business and politics. The Ethik-Monitor was based on an online panel comprising a representative sample of n=1,000.
