Global Demos

Global Demos is set to become an online platform that makes information about companies’ social and environmental performance easily and quickly accessible to everyone.

What is the background to this?

For several years now, pressure has been mounting on companies to manage the social and environmental issues within their own value chains responsibly. An independent platform for credible sustainability reporting is becoming a central aspect of risk management.

As well as companies, Global Demos is also aimed at local and international NGOs seeking new ways to communicate their information to the general public. Last but not least, Global Demos is aimed at consumers, as they need trustworthy sources of information to be able to base their purchasing decisions on socio-environmental criteria.

What does Global Demos do?

The aim of Global Demos is to bring transparency to the actual actions of companies. In doing so, selected NGOs, as well as journalists, uncover the stories behind companies’ high-profile CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) communications.

With the help of a web platform and a tool for donation-funded research, it facilitates quality journalism in a sensitive area. Owing to the reliability and credibility of the stories, Global Demos serves as a warning system for companies, as it enables them to identify problem areas along their own value chain at an early stage.

As well as being a source of information, Global Demos will also be a tool for consumers which, through opportunities for participation in the form of topic suggestions and discussion forums, enables genuine consumer sovereignty and thus empowers consumers.

Crucially, Global Demos will remain neutral and will not engage in corporate bashing. The focus is on initiating an exchange between consumers, businesses and the public, which is why the platform is strongly dialogue-oriented.
