Fairwärts Ideas Competition for Sustainability in Tourism
The Fairwärts ideas competition for sustainability and responsibility in tourism has begun: tourism companies based in Germany have until 31 December to submit their applications. The winners will be presented with the Fairwärts Trophy next year.
The winners will be selected from the entries submitted through a multi-stage process. In January 2016, an eight-member jury will begin its work. Project manager Miriam Schaper from the Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik is a member of this independent panel of experts.
“The assessment criteria are multifaceted. Among other things, they will address issues such as feasibility, the relevance of the entry to sustainable tourism or sustainable development, local social standards, energy efficiency, etc., depending on the focus of the submitted application,” explains Martin Balàš from the Fairwärts team. “From February onwards, members of the public will also be able to vote for their personal favourite through our public vote.” The Fairwärts competition is organised by kate Umwelt & Entwicklung in cooperation with TourCert.
The Hamburger Stiftung für Wirtschaftsethik, through its Ethical Risk Assessment project, focuses intensively on issues relating to sustainable tourism and is a founding member of the Roundtable on Human Rights in Tourism.
