Tourism
Tourism
Travelling is a wonderful pastime that more and more people can afford. Many countries around the world are benefiting from the tourism boom, which has been generating substantial revenue for some for decades, whilst for others it is a more recent development.
However, there are also those who lose out as a result of this trend: in many places, the crowds of people are more of a curse than a blessing for nature and wildlife. Nor do some local residents really benefit from tourism. In some countries, this is therefore giving rise to conflicts over issues such as water consumption and pollution, or land expropriation.
Using the resources on the topic of tourism, pupils can discuss who is (partly) responsible for the problems arising within the long and complex value chain of the tourism industry, particularly in the destination countries themselves.
