Creating your own materials – A construction plan
The following criteria and approaches are recommended when creating your own materials on other topics:
- Generally speaking, suitable topics are those in which a particular industry or sector raises ethical and moral issues (these often also touch on questions of human rights, working and living conditions, or nature conservation and environmental protection, etc.).
- In complex cases involving multiple problems or conflicts along a value chain, a specific focus should be established (key areas within the topic of intensive livestock farming include, for example, working conditions in slaughterhouses in Germany or soya cultivation in Brazil and its environmental consequences).
- Four to a maximum of six stakeholders involved in the problem or conflict should be selected. These should be both part of the problem and part of a possible solution (it is assumed that solutions will be based on a division of labour).
- Conduct online research on the individual stakeholders (figures, facts, criticism of the stakeholders’ actions, calls for improvements).
- Compile existing levers for change in the three areas and make them available to the pupils in the form of newspaper articles or film clips (further information on this can also be found in the guide to Module B on the VIEW! homepage).
